Admiral Insurance Group Announces New Excess Casualty Department Led By SVP Brian Lineberger

Company’s expansion answers growing demand for added protection by insureds across sectors

MT. LAUREL, NJ (June 23rd, 2023) Admiral Insurance Group, a Berkley Company providing wholesale-dedicated excess and surplus (E&S) lines commercial insurance, announced it will add a new Excess Casualty Department, to be led by Brian Lineberger, Senior Vice President, Excess. Admiral Insurance Group transacts surplus lines insurance in California through Berkley Managers Insurance Services, LLC, a licensed surplus lines broker (CA. Lic. No. 0H05115).

By offering an unsupported excess product that has a broader risk appetite, Admiral is meeting a growing demand that shows strong indications of continued growth for the foreseeable future. The new Excess Casualty Department is designed to provide the level of expertise necessary to successfully manage additional coverage options for existing policies. Each of the eight members of the Admiral Excess Casualty Department team brings more than 15 years of underwriting experience to the table and specialty skills in underwriting more challenging E&S risks—primarily those that are middle-market focused with an average premium of $50,000, with some national-market risks as well.

“The U.S. legal system has been adjudicating the largest verdicts and settlements in history and insureds in nearly every sector understand they need the protection Excess Casualty insurance provides,” said Mr. Lineberger. “The underwriting response has been to reduce capacity. This has created a need for new capacity to fill these gaps. I expect this need to continue throughout the foreseeable future—it is a demand our new Excess Casualty Department can meet today with the flexibility to evolve as needs change.”

Recognizing the continual, strong market demand for the unsupported excess product, Admiral decided to add its Excess Casualty Department to complement its supported excess business. According to Admiral, accounts that require larger excess towers represent a small percentage of its supported excess portfolio. Expanding the unsupported area represents a great opportunity to grow its overall excess book and provide balance to the supported portfolio.

Mr. Lineberger’s team is currently based in California and will limit appointments to West Coast wholesale brokers. Additional appointments will be made as the team builds additional locations throughout the US.

With more than 35 years of industry leadership experience, Mr. Lineberger is respected for his solid track record of forging strong customer relationships and building strong teams. In this new role, Mr. Lineberger will apply his underwriting expertise to lead a national team of underwriters.
