Empowering Employees with Innovative Tools and Best Practices

The Strategic Initiatives team equips employees with innovative tools that enhance their productivity and efficiency. Before implementing these new technology practices, the team facilitates pilot design, prototyping, testing options, controlled deployment, and result evaluation to ensure a smooth transition into the existing workflow. Throughout execution, they promote and utilize best practices within Admiral and across the E&S segment.

By spearheading these processes, the Strategic Initiatives team ensures that all employees are well-equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to leverage the latest tools effectively.

What is your area of expertise?
My area of expertise is Admiral’s operations. I have been here for 19 years, so I know the history of many things and I put that into use every day. There is something unique about having the history behind you to help propel you forward into new ways of doing things and working.

What’s something you’ve worked on at Admiral that you’re proud of?
I am most proud of being involved with the original role out of Business Process Management which moved Admiral from paper files to paperless. It was a lot of hard work to develop and roll out to everyone. It was a big step forward for Admiral and I’m happy to have played my part in it.

If a friend was considering joining Admiral’s team, what would you want them to know?
That it’s a great place to work. I have been here many years and would say that just like when I joined, it is the people that make it great – the generosity of spirit and expertise in their area that make it easy to collaborate across departments to get things done. There is a genuine desire to do well (make money for WRB) and be a good corporate citizen. Luckily this does not impact the good that is done inside and outside of Admiral. It is important to believe in the company you work for and what it stands for, and that is easy to do at Admiral.

What is something most people don’t know about you?
I did my study abroad in Malta. It was before cell phones so to speak to my family I had to go to a friend’s house, call the operator, they had to call my family and then call me back and connect us. It is where I really learned to stand on my own two feet! Also not widely known is that I have a Maltese Cross tattoo.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
Goofy, Empathetic, and Vault (tell me something and I will take it to the grave if needed).

What is a skill or talent you wish you had?
I wish I had the ability to speak foreign languages easily. I have been all over Europe and I’m only able to speak a few words in each language. Nowadays with translation apps it’s a lot easier to travel and get the information you need with less of a struggle. I recall a train ride to the former Yugoslavia; we were handing a book back and forth to be able to speak to our compartment mates. It was a challenge for sure!

What is your area of expertise?
My area of expertise is strategy deployment, continuous improvement, problem solving, change management and operational excellence.

What surprised you most when you started at Admiral?
The people, the teams, and the level of collaboration. From day one, I was struck by how open and approachable everyone was. The culture here is incredibly supportive, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and communication. People are not only willing to talk and share their insights, but they also genuinely embrace new ideas and perspectives.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
Having the opportunity to collaborate with multiple teams across the company. This cross-functional interaction allows me to be involved in a variety of projects throughout the organization, giving me a comprehensive understanding of how different departments operate and contribute to our overall goals.

What are you most passionate about?
I am deeply passionate about cooking. To me, food is not just sustenance; it’s a fundamental part of life and relationships. I believe that sharing a meal can bring people closer together, creating bonds and memories that last a lifetime. I dedicate myself to preparing exceptional quality food, infused with taste and love, for my family and friends. Whether it’s a simple weeknight dinner or a festive holiday feast, I try to make every meal special and memorable.

If you could max out a credit card at any store, where would it be?
Williams Sonoma, although I tend to avoid going in for the same reason.

What is a skill or talent you wish you had?
Woodworking. Being able to build structures from the ground up and its contents (furniture).

What is your area of expertise?
My focus is on technical strategy and innovation.  I attempt to answer the question “How can we leverage technology to improve our business?”

What do you enjoy most about your role?
There are always new problems that require solutions, so each day is different. Often those solutions have a technical component. This spans all aspects of the Admiral business, so I get involved with every other department in some capacity.

What surprised you most when you started at Admiral?
There are some people at Admiral that have been here for a long time.  It’s a really great place and people don’t seem to want to leave very often.

What is your guilty pleasure?
I enjoy building Lego sets. Sometimes I even let the kids help.

What is something you really geek out about?
I can get extremely involved in games. Board games, card games, computer games… You name it. If there is something I can try to win at, I love it.

What fad did you embrace while growing up?
90’s grunge music. I don’t plan to give it up.
